A leading independent oil and gas company has engaged our firm to identify a financial analyst with operational experience in an upstream oil and gas setting required to assist in delivery of enterprise reporting in support of critical business processes.  Role will be a functional contributor in enterprise-wide initiatives, including but not limited to, cost management, balanced scorecard development and operational reporting re-design efforts.  Role focused on providing analytical support to the Business Performance Management (BPM) group in its effort to provide data driven reporting solutions to our client’s operational personnel.


  • Provide functional data analysis support for development of visualizations in operational reporting, including:
  • Source system data analysis, data attribute research (SAP & other operational systems)
  • Testing – Visualization to source system testing, cross testing (visual : visual), filter and marking testing and general end user experience testing
  • Design report ‘mock-ups’, including calculations and visual renderings for hand-off to technical personnel for technical development; focused on                 building lean approaches which empower exception-based management
  • Creation of process documentation (standard work) written for target audience
  • Functional contributor in the various stages of visualization development, including design, development, testing, process documentation and                     change management support of BI reporting solutions
  • Establish close collaboration with business constituents and relevant stakeholders as required
  • Position will work closely with BPM personnel, including both functional as well as technical Business Intelligence (BI) developers to                   operationalize reporting solutions that align with business objectives


  • Finance/Accounting Degree (MBA preferred)
  • Upstream Oil & Gas experience required (5+ years of experience)
  • Strong SAP experience, at a super-user level.  Familiarity with data table and integration of various key modules, including FI, CO, PS, PM
  • Operational experience, including In depth experience using the Plant Maintenance (PM) module in SAP
  • Keen understanding of the role data standards and master data provide in enriching informative value of reporting
  • Appreciation for “going and seeing” to validate/confirm data and to ensure the right aspects are being measured


  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools, for example –  Spotfire, SAP Business Warehouse or other similar BI technologies
  • Experience with value stream management, including making problems visible and feeding improvement efforts
  • Familiarity with Lean concepts, including ‘root cause’, ‘5 whys’, ‘army of decision makers’, and basic understand of leading/lagging causal             analysis
  • Conceptual familiarity with enterprise architecture and its connectivity to BI reporting architectural layers: data model, query or information link and reporting layer


5+ years in Upstream Oil & Gas experience required

Demonstrated work experience in a project-based setting
